OGUN POLICE COMMAND CHAMPION UNITY WITH STATE WALKATHON DURING NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

The Ogun State Police Command transformed major roads into corridors of connection, marking Day 2 of the 2026 National Police Week with a coordinated statewide walkathon. Leading from the front, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, alongside officers, community partners and civic groups, set the pace for what became more than a symbolic exercise. It was a visible statement of renewed engagement between law enforcement and the people they serve. From Abeokuta to satellite divisions, the atmosphere reflected a blend of civic pride and collective responsibility, as uniforms and civilians moved in step under a shared vision of safer communities.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command emphasized that the walkathon, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” was held simultaneously across all Area Commands and Divisions, underscoring a unified approach to security and public engagement. The statement noted that the participation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) and other stakeholders highlighted the growing synergy necessary for effective policing, while also promoting physical wellness and social cohesion.

Beyond the optics of the march, the initiative carried deeper undertones of an intentional rebranding of the police-public relationship in a time where trust is both critical and evolving. The walkathon served as a reminder that modern policing extends beyond enforcement; it thrives on visibility, accessibility and partnership. As Ogun State continues its' Police Week activities, the message is clearly stated that security is not a solitary pursuit, but a shared journey, one step at a time.
