As part of the mandate given to the Nigerian Navy to ensure the safety of the nation's territorial waters and to curb illegal activities on Nigeria's maritime environment, a team from the Nigerian Navy Ship BEEECROFT, have successfully clamped down on illegal activities of drug peddlers using wooden boats in the Lagos State coastline.

The officers and men during a routine patrol, using the Maritime Domain Awareness System, the Falcon Eye Alignment, the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT in vectored patrol boats, gave swift response to sighting of this illegal movement, on covering the Iworo, Ibeshe and Badagry coastline areas in Lagos State.

The patrol squad discovered medium-sized wooden boats laden with about 40kg each of 66 bags suspected to contain Cannabis Sativa but the culprits on sighting the team, fled the scene.

All the illicit items and substances were confiscated and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further necessary action.

The interception once again shows the Nigerian Navy's commitment and resolve under the leadership of Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, to thwart all forms of illegalities as well as to ensure a conducive environment for legitimate businesses to thrive for economic prosperity of our dear nation.

The Nigerian Navy also urges the public to support the onslaught against drug peddlers and provide relevant information towards eradicating the menace.

The Nigerian Navy will continue to provide safety and security of Nigeria's maritime domain while upholding the rule of law.
