On April 3rd, 2025, the air at the GTCO Food and Drink Festival was rich—not just with the aroma of sizzling delicacies, but with the spirit of African pride. And right at the heart of it all was none other than Chef Tilewa Odedina, fondly known as Chef Tilly.
Opening the day’s first session, Chef Tilly didn’t just cook—she told stories through food. With effortless grace and precision, she combined indigenous African ingredients to create meals that hit every note on the taste scale. From spices that warmed the soul to textures that danced on the tongue, her creations left the audience in awe.
A graduate of the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu, Chef Tilly wears many hats: chef, nutritionist, culinary educator, and partner chef for Miele Nigeria. But beyond the accolades, she carries a mission—to elevate African cuisine and remind the world that our food is not just delicious, but deeply healing.
As she took the audience through her cooking process, she spoke about the power of food as medicine. “With the right ingredients and preparation methods, our everyday meals can keep us healthy—even in the absence of pharmaceutical medicine,” she said. Her message was clear: healing doesn’t always come in pills; sometimes, it’s on your plate.
Chef Tilly also had a word for young and aspiring chefs. “Don’t give up. Excellence is a journey, and the world needs your flavour,” she encouraged, earning nods and applause from fans and budding food enthusiasts alike.
More than just a food event, the GTCO Food and Drink Festival is becoming a cultural movement. Through chefs like Tilly, Africa’s culinary voice is getting louder—and it tastes incredible.
