In a decisive move to curb cross-border economic sabotage, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry has intercepted and handed over 419 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command.

The seizure followed sustained patrols and intelligence-driven surveillance by the Navy’s Quick Response Teams along the Badagry–Porto Novo Creek and adjoining waterways, areas long exploited by smugglers seeking to evade lawful trade channels.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Commanding Officer of FOB Badagry, Navy Captain BO Omotayo, represented by Lieutenant Commander SO Talabi, affirmed the Navy’s commitment to maritime security and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.

He said that their actions are fully aligned with the Chief of Naval Staff’s Strategic Directive 06–2023, which underscores the importance of a secure maritime environment as the bedrock of national development.

Captain Omotayo praised the professionalism of his personnel, emphasizing that FOB Badagry will continue to deny smugglers operational space through intelligence-led operations and strengthened collaboration with sister agencies.

He issued a stern warning to those involved in illicit trade, stressing that the Navy remains resolute in defending Nigeria’s territorial waters and economic lifelines.

The handover, conducted under the Harmonized Standard Operating Procedure (HSOP) for inter-agency cooperation, reinforces the Navy’s role as a frontline actor in securing Nigeria’s maritime corridors while ensuring seamless synergy with Customs and other security stakeholders.
