In a statement released on Thursday, Samuel Adobah, President of the Universal Friendship Organization Ghana, said the organization was “deeply appalled by the scale of brutality visited on innocent Nigerians,” adding that “these attacks are not just an assault on Nigeria, but on the shared values of humanity, peace and coexistence across Africa.” The statement, jointly endorsed by Richil Mawuenyega, Global Policy Analyst at UFO, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and affirmed solidarity with the Nigerian government and people in their pursuit of lasting peace and stability.
Beyond the immediate tragedy, the organization pointed to deeper structural challenges fueling insecurity across the continent. Chief among them, UFO Ghana argued, is the entrenched “winner-takes-all” approach to governance in many African states, an approach that often breeds exclusion, resentment and conflict. The group called for a deliberate shift toward inclusive governance anchored on transparency, accountability and equitable participation.
Corruption was also identified as a persistent accelerant of conflict, weakening institutions and eroding public trust.
UFO Ghana stressed that governance is not a one-off event but a continuous responsibility, urging leaders to place citizen welfare and security at the center of public policy. The organization lamented the recurring loss of lives, mass displacement and destruction of property not only in Nigeria but across several parts of Africa.
The statement further appealed to the international community to scale up support for Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts through intelligence cooperation, capacity building and humanitarian assistance. It also condemned the use of violence by any group, identified or otherwise, as a means of addressing grievances, urging instead dialogue, lawful engagement and peaceful resolution.
As part of its' recommendations, the Universal Friendship Organization Ghana called on ECOWAS and the African Union to deepen collaboration in tackling terrorism and banditry through a coordinated regional security framework. It urged governments in the sub-region to strengthen community-based security mechanisms and emphasized the need for Nigeria to intensify its cybersecurity architecture to counter the growing threat of online radicalization and cyber-enabled terrorism.
