In a continued push to integrate public health advocacy into community policing, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, on Monday received members of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), Ogun State Chapter, on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. The delegation was led by the Society’s Secretary, Dr. Bolaji Lateef Salako and focused on strengthening awareness around cancer prevention, early detection and sustainable health-conscious practices within security institutions and the wider public.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the visit was described as a strategic engagement aimed at sensitizing the Command’s leadership and management team on cancer awareness, prevention strategies and the critical importance of early diagnosis, particularly in reducing mortality rates and improving quality of life.
During the interaction, members of the Nigerian Cancer Society outlined practical approaches to cancer prevention, emphasizing routine screening, lifestyle adjustments and informed health choices. The engagement highlighted the growing need for institutional collaboration between health-focused civil society organizations and security agencies, especially as police officers often serve as first responders and influential touchpoints within communities.
CP Lanre Ogunlowo expressed appreciation to the delegation for what he described as a timely and impactful outreach. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Command’s broader commitment to officer welfare, preventive healthcare, and community well-being, adding that enhanced health consciousness among personnel ultimately strengthens service delivery to the public.
The visit underscores a modern, people-centered approach to policing; one that recognizes health awareness as a cornerstone of effective leadership, resilienceand social responsibility in an increasingly complex urban society.
