NDLEA UNCOVERS MAJOR DRUG TRAFFICKING NETWORK, SEIZES COCAINE, SYNTHETIC OPIOIDS AT LAGOS AIRPORT

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a series of major breakthroughs in its' ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, intercepting large quantities of illicit substances and arresting multiple suspects across the country.

In a key operation at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, operatives uncovered 237 wraps of cocaine weighing 5.80 kilograms. The drugs were ingeniously concealed in the heads of imported dry stock fish. A 36-year-old suspect, Akputa Dickson Ejike, identified as a member of a trafficking syndicate, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Further operations by the agency led to the interception of 1.9 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside automobile filters, along with 40 ampoules of morphine sulphate and nine ampoules of fentanyl in shipments bound for the United Kingdom. These seizures highlight growing attempts by traffickers to smuggle synthetic drugs through export channels.

In Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives arrested an 80-year-old suspect, Oke Samuel, found in possession of 2.2 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis and a smaller quantity of methamphetamine.

Across several states, the agency reported additional significant seizures. In Lagos State, operatives confiscated 76.30 kilograms and 41 kilograms of “Ghana Loud,” a strong cannabis variant, from suspected members of a drug syndicate. In Benue State, authorities recovered 116.7 kilograms of skunk, while in Edo State, a large haul of 576.5 kilograms of skunk and 33 bottles of codeine-based syrup was seized.
Similarly, in Taraba State, operatives discovered 135 kilograms of skunk concealed in bags of animal feed, further underscoring the evolving tactics of drug traffickers.

The NDLEA commended its' officers for their vigilance and resilience, reaffirming its' commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse nationwide. The agency also reiterated the need for continued public cooperation in the fight against illicit drugs.
