The Nigeria Police Force has launched a month-long nationwide digital awareness campaign titled 'Real Odogwu No Dey Hide Face,' a public engagement initiative designed to promote safer online conduct and strengthen digital security across the country. The campaign reflects growing concern within law enforcement circles over the increasing sophistication of cybercriminal activities targeting Nigerian citizens and businesses.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre(NPF-NCCC) , CP Ifeanyi Uche Henry, noted that cyber threats continue to evolve in both scale and complexity. He pointed to a range of prevalent digital crimes including identity theft, romance scams, business email compromise, sextortion and phishing schemes, warning that unsuspecting individuals often fall victim through careless online habits. According to him, improved digital awareness and responsible online behaviour remain key tools in reducing exposure to such crimes.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, also acknowledged the support of international partners working with the Nigeria Police Force to combat cybercrime, underscoring the importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing digital offences that frequently transcend national boundaries. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant online, verify suspicious communications and take active steps to safeguard personal digital identities as part of a collective effort to strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity culture.
