The Ogun State Police Command has pushed back against allegations of professional misconduct raised by two civil society groups, insisting that its investigation into an alleged rape case in Ijebu-Ode followed due process and upheld the rights of the victim.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command responded to a petition titled “Urgent Petition to All Well-Meaning Nigerians,” submitted by the Safer Society for Children (SSC) Foundation and the Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF). The groups had accused police officers of mishandling the case and exposing the victim to further harm.

DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi said the Command conducted its' investigation with the highest level of professionalism, noting that the suspects; Kalu Prosper, Oche Destiny, Adamu Paul and Adewusi Qudus, have been formally charged in court. He added that the judicial process is underway to ensure justice is served.

He rejected claims that the victim was compromised during the investigation, stating that officers adhered strictly to required procedures, including medical examinations, evidence collection and documentation. According to the statement, the victim’s safety, dignity and rights were prioritized throughout the process.

Despite the denial of wrongdoing, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State has ordered an internal review of the allegations contained in the petition. The Command said it remains open to verifiable evidence and would take decisive action if any officer is found to have breached professional standards.

The Command remains committed to transparency and accountability, the statement said.
Authorities also called on members of the public with relevant information to assist ongoing inquiries, assuring that updates would be provided as the case progresses.
