POLICE WEEK 2026: OGUN COMMAND LAUNCHES MEDICAL OUTREACH, SANITATION DRIVE

The Ogun State Police Command has officially commenced activities for the 2026 Police Week with a free medical outreach and a statewide sanitation exercise, signaling the start of events leading to the National Police Day celebration.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the initiative was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, as part of a week-long programme marking the 2026 National Police Day.
The opening day of the programme featured a free medical screening exercise organized by the Department of Force Medical Services, Ogun State Police Command. The outreach took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Council Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, where members of the public received various health services.
Beneficiaries were provided with blood sugar and blood pressure checks, body mass index assessments through height and weight measurements, as well as health education focusing on the importance of regular medical check-ups and physical exercise. The Command acknowledged the support of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and media practitioners, noting that their collaboration contributed significantly to the success of the outreach.
In addition to the medical programme, a statewide sanitation exercise was conducted simultaneously across all Area Commands and Divisions in Ogun State. The exercise reflected the Command’s emphasis on environmental hygiene, public health awareness and community involvement in policing efforts.
The initiatives were described as part of a broader people-centered policing strategy aimed at strengthening trust between the police and the public while highlighting the service-oriented role of the Force. The activities also underscored the significance of Police Week as a period dedicated to recognizing the contributions and commitment of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Residents and participants across the state reacted positively to the programmes, describing them as timely and beneficial to public well-being. The Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing, community partnership and sustained engagement with citizens.
Activities marking Police Week and the 2026 National Police Day are expected to continue throughout the week with various programmes designed to promote public safety, health and community development across Ogun State.
