In alignment with reform directives introduced by the Inspector General Of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at modernizing policing across state commands, a fresh layer of strategy is being added to crime fighting efforts in Ogun State, as the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni moved to strengthen tactical operations with the appointment of CSP Daramola Sunday Thompson as Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the appointment was described as part of a broader restructuring effort to create a more coordinated, intelligence-driven and professional unit focused on tackling violent crimes. The statement noted that the process followed a rigorous screening exercise, alongside the kickoff of an orientation programme for newly selected personnel.
CSP Daramola brings a strong résumé to the role, with experience spanning anti-cultism, anti-fraud and anti-car theft operations across Ogun and Ekiti States, as well as leadership experience as a Divisional Police Officer in Ebonyi State. His track record, officials say, positions him well to lead a unit expected to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging threats.
During the orientation, CP Ojajuni and the Command’s management team provided hands-on guidance, reinforcing expectations around professionalism, discipline and accountability as core pillars of the ongoing reform agenda.
The Commissioner tasked the new commander with staying aligned to these goals, emphasizing the need for lawful, decisive and intelligence-led responses to violent crime across Ogun State.
