DRUG BUSTS ACROSS NIGERIA: NDLEA SEIZES COCAINE, CANNABIS, ARRESTS MULTIPLE SUSPECTS

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 12 large parcels of cocaine concealed in the false bottom of food flasks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
The drugs, with a gross weight of 2.80 kilograms, were heading to the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic flight when they were discovered on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at the export shed of the airport.
Two cargo agents, Ama Obinna Ufeim, 33 and Ogabi Monday Akorede, 39, were arrested in connection with the shipment. Further investigations led to the arrest of Agoro Tajudeen Moninuola, 52, a freight and forwarding agent identified as the sender.
In another operation at the import shed of the same airport on Wednesday, April 8th, NDLEA officers intercepted 2.90 kilograms of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis. The drugs were concealed in snack packs and had arrived from the United States on a Delta Airlines flight.
Two cargo clearing agents, Animashaun Moshood Adetunji and Mercy Gabriel Oluwasegun, were initially arrested. The consignee, Saheed Adeshina Adegoke, 29, a fashion designer, was later arrested at 3 Oba Ogunji Road, Ogba, Lagos, on Monday, April 13th.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Kaduna-Zaria highway at Gwargwaje, Zaria, intercepted a trailer carrying cement on Monday, April 13th. A search revealed 760 blocks and 33 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 847 kilograms. The driver, Umar Garba Haruna, 33, was arrested.
In Cross River State, a 53-year-old suspect, Alice Sunday Udoh, was arrested on Thursday, April 16, after NDLEA officers, supported by soldiers, raided a forest in Uwet community, Akamkpa Local Government Area. During the operation, 15,000 kilograms of skunk spread across six hectares of farmland were destroyed, while 119 kilograms were recovered.
Similarly, in Edo State, NDLEA operatives raided another cannabis farm on Tuesday, April 14, at Saboro camp, Ovia North East Local Government Area. A total of 2,281.43 kilograms of the substance was destroyed. Three suspects ; Nweke Smart, 27; Christopher Egbe, 62; and Monday Ayan, 45 , were arrested. Christopher Egbe and Monday Ayan were found in possession of 38.5 kilograms of cannabis and seeds.
In Delta State, two suspects, Sunday Odili, 49, and Ijenebe Joshua, 39, were arrested at the Powerline area of Okwo on Friday, April 17, with 87.838 kilograms of skunk and seeds.
Back in Lagos, two suspects, Chinedu Ogbekene and Zindozin Aloukou Bienvenu, were arrested on Wednesday, April 15, at Mile 2 along the Lagos/Badagry Expressway. They were caught conveying 11,900 capsules of tramadol and 400 ampoules of phenobarbital injection in a truck heading to Ghana.
On the same day, NDLEA operatives raided a two-storey building in Petti, Lagos Island, where 95.8 kilograms of skunk was recovered.
The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaign nationwide.
Awareness lectures were held in several schools, including Alfurgan Islamic School, Paiko (Niger State); Edgerly Memorial Girls Secondary School, Calabar (Cross River); Heritage Model School, Ankpa (Kogi); Government Day Junior and Senior Secondary School, Kankia (Katsina); Government Senior Secondary School, Rano (Kano); and De Ambassador Secondary School, Epe (Lagos State).
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers across commands in Lagos, Kaduna, Edo, Delta and Cross River for the arrests and seizures. He urged them to sustain the momentum in both enforcement and public sensitization efforts.
