MULTIPLE ARRESTS, WEAPONS RECOVERED IN OGUN POLICE OPERATIONS

A series of coordinated police operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda has led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition, as authorities in Ogun State step up efforts to keep communities safe. The operations, carried out between April 14th and April 18th, highlight a growing reliance on intelligence-led policing and routine stop-and-search strategies.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the arrests were described as part of proactive measures to curb crime and remove dangerous elements from the streets. The statement detailed how officers acted on credible intelligence and routine checks to intercept suspects found in possession of weapons and other suspicious items across different parts of the state.

In Mowe, a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, was arrested near a bus stop after a tip-off from a concerned resident. A search reportedly uncovered a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge and charms, with the suspect allegedly admitting links to a cult group.

In Sagamu, two separate stop-and-search operations by the Quick Response Squad led to the arrest of two men; Asaye Ajibola, 30, and Adedeji Olufemi, 49, both intercepted along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road. Officers recovered locally made firearms and multiple cartridges from the suspects, who were unable to give satisfactory explanations.

Meanwhile, in Odeda, a separate incident at the Sawmill area of Osiele involved a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, who was arrested after a firearm he reportedly handled discharged accidentally, leaving three people injured. The victims received medical attention and are said to be stable.

All four suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The state's Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni praised the professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime through sustained, intelligence-driven operations.
