A routine intelligence tip turned into a swift police breakthrough in Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, where detectives uncovered a suspected vehicle theft operation involving a mini bus being repainted in a bush to disguise its' identity. One suspect, 22-year-old female, Azeez Khadijat, was arrested at the scene, while others managed to flee.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, operatives of the Omu-Ijebu Division acted quickly on credible information about suspicious activity along Ikhasi Road, Kajola. The statement noted that officers stormed the location and caught the suspect inside the vehicle, while other accomplices escaped in different directions.
The incident, which occurred on April 19th, 2026, around 4:00 p.m., involved a Suzuki mini bus popularly known as a “Korope”, which was reportedly being repainted from its' original yellow color to white and blue, allegedly to conceal its' identity. The vehicle, bearing a Lagos registration number, has since been recovered and secured by the police.
A search of the scene uncovered several items believed to be linked to the operation, including three mobile phones, a power bank, a paint can, sandpaper and a Type-C charging cord. Preliminary findings suggest the vehicle may have been used for criminal activities in Lagos before the repainting attempt.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with the case set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni praised the operatives for their swift action and reassured residents that all those involved will be brought to justice.
