A suspected case of violent misconduct has led to the arrest of two security guards in Ibafo, Ogun State, following the death of a traveler identified as Promise. Authorities say the incident, which occurred in the early hours of April 10th, has triggered a wider investigation as police intensify efforts to track down additional suspects believed to be on the run.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, detectives from the Ibafo Division acted on a credible tip-off, swiftly responding to the scene and evacuating the victim to a medical facility. According to the statement, the victim, while being transported, identified himself and alleged that he had been attacked and macheted by security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night.
Police confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. His body has since been documented and deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators say early findings revealed a trail of blood leading directly to one of the suspects, prompting his arrest. Further intelligence efforts led to the capture of a second suspect, while authorities continue an active manhunt for others believed to have participated in the attack.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where a comprehensive investigation is underway ahead of prosecution.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing, describing it as unacceptable and a violation of the law. He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for unlawful violence and assured the public that all individuals connected to the crime would be brought to justice.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines: Gateway Shield (Toll-Free): 0800 000 9111; Emergency numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.
