The Delta State Police Command on Thursday said it had rescued two kidnap victims and killed two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle in the Obulu-Uku Power Line area of Ogwashi-Uku.

According to the police, the operation followed a coordinated effort to track down the suspects, who had earlier been linked to a kidnapping incident in Ibusa and the Enu-Ani Mega City axis. Acting on intelligence, operatives, supported by the military, traced the suspects to their hideout, where an exchange of gunfire ensued.

Two of the suspects were fatally wounded in the confrontation, while the victims were successfully rescued.

Items recovered at the scene included an AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition and a cash sum of ₦4.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds. Authorities said a manhunt is ongoing for other members of the gang who fled the scene, as security personnel continue to comb the surrounding area for additional weapons.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for what he described as a display of courage and professionalism. He also urged residents to support ongoing efforts by providing timely and credible information that could assist in curbing criminal activities.
