SWIFT POLICE RESPONSE LEADS TO RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED STUDENTS IN OGUN

A tense situation in Sapade, Ogun State, ended on a positive note after police operatives successfully rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic Sapade who were abducted late on April 27th. The rescue, carried out within hours, followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that tracked the suspects into nearby bush paths.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the incident began when officers at Ipara Division received a distress call around 10:55 p.m. The statement explained that a patrol team responding to the alert discovered an abandoned Ash-coloured Toyota vehicle riddled with bullet marks, along with blood stains, mobile phones and personal belongings; early signs that something had gone seriously wrong.
Further checks revealed a student identity card inside the vehicle, confirming the victims’ link to the institution and triggering an immediate escalation. Acting on the directive of Bode Ojajuni, multiple tactical units including SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping, VCRU, QRS, OP MESA and teams from Isara Area Command were deployed for an all night search operation.

The breakthrough came on April 28th, when sustained pressure from security teams forced the abductors to abandon the victims and flee, reportedly with gunshot wounds after a confrontation with operatives. All five students were rescued alive, given immediate medical attention and are said to be recovering.

Police say efforts are still ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, with bush combing operations continuing across the area. The Commissioner Of Police,Ogun State CP Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their swift coordination and professionalism, noting that the success underscores the value of intelligence-led policing.
