OGUN POLICE ARREST FATHER, SON, THREE OTHERS IN CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL FIREARMS, THEFT

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another round of intelligence-led breakthroughs, arresting five suspects including a father and son, while recovering four firearms, a live cartridge and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000 in separate operations across the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command said the coordinated operations were carried out by operatives attached to Afon, Ilisan Remo and Ode Remo Divisions as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on violent crime, cultism, illegal firearms possession and theft.

According to the statement, operatives of Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, following a report of phone theft received on May 22, 2026. Investigators tracked and recovered the stolen Tecno Android phone, which had reportedly been stolen from a residential apartment earlier in the month.
Things took a more dramatic turn during a police search of the suspects’ residence, carried out with a duly obtained warrant, where officers allegedly uncovered a locally made pistol and a dane gun hidden inside the premises. Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

In another development, officers attached to Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge abandoned near Ilisan Remo Roundabout during a routine patrol on May 27. Police said the firearm has since been secured while efforts continue to trace its' owner.

Meanwhile, operatives at Ode Remo Division arrested 25-year-old Inioluwa Adesanya over the theft of a dane gun from a resident’s home. Investigators said the suspect allegedly gained access to the property while working as a carpenter’s assistant during renovation work. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the theft and admitted links to the Aye confraternity.

All the cases have now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The State's Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for what he described as professionalism, swift response and effective intelligence-led policing. He also reassured residents that the Command remains committed to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal activities across Ogun State.
