OGUN POLICE BUST KIDNAP SYNDICATE, ARREST KINGPIN, RECOVER WEAPONS IN MAJOR OPERATION

The Ogun State Police Command says has recorded a major breakthrough in its' ongoing fight against kidnapping after operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit neutralized two suspected kidnappers, arrested an alleged gang leader and another gang member, and recovered weapons, ammunition, ransom cash and other items linked to the criminal operation. The operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering after the abduction of three persons at Ipojo Area, Iperin, Atan-Ijebu, on May 11th, 2026.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command said the victims were freed unharmed on May 14th after their captors reportedly collected ransom. Police operatives immediately intensified efforts to track the gang, leading to a coordinated raid on a suspected hideout along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road axis in the early hours of May 15.
According to the Command, the suspects opened fire on officers during the operation, triggering a gun battle. Police operatives overpowered the gang, killing two suspects on the spot while others escaped into nearby forests with gunshot wounds. Further follow-up intelligence operations led to the arrest of the alleged kingpin, identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, alongside another suspect, Mohammed Bello.
Recovered from the operation were an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a single-barrel gun, ₦1.5 million suspected to be ransom proceeds, several mobile phones and a black bag believed to have been used during the criminal activities.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for what he described as a professional and courageous operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing and intensifying efforts against kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while investigations continue to track down fleeing gang members and uncover the wider network behind the operation.
