OGUN POLICE BUST VEHICLE THEFT RING, SEIZE CARS, WEAPON IN MULTI -STATE OPERATION

A coordinated police operation has led to the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and the recovery of multiple stolen vehicles, as authorities in Ogun State intensify efforts against organized crime. The arrest, linked to a wider vehicle theft network also led to the recovery of a pistol believed to have been used in previous operations.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, detectives from the Anti-Robbery Squad acted on credible intelligence to launch a discreet investigation into reported vehicle thefts. The statement noted that the operation led to the arrest of the suspects, namely Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde and Adedokun Adewusi, across different locations, uncovering what appears to be a coordinated criminal syndicate.

The investigation first pointed to Hammed Olarewaju, who was found with a suspicious vehicle plate number. That lead quickly unraveled more, resulting in the arrest of Adedokun Ayinde, identified by police as the group’s leader. Officers recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna during the operation, along with a fabricated pistol.

The case soon stretched beyond Ogun State. A stolen Toyota Corolla taken in Ilaro was tracked to Ibadan, Oyo State, while another suspect, Adedokun Adewusi, was linked to a separate robbery incident. Further findings led to the recovery of a grey 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport traced to Abuja, with an additional pistol recovered in Ajah, Lagos, thus tying the network across multiple states.

Preliminary findings suggest the suspects are part of a wider syndicate involved in vehicle theft and armed robbery across Ogun and neighboring states. Investigators say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members and recover more stolen vehicles.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to keeping communities safe.
