OGUN POLICE DISMISS CLAIMS OF CRIMINALIZING CIVIL DISPUTE

The Ogun State Police Command is setting the record straight following an online report that suggested officers criminalized a civil dispute between a landlord and tenants in Ajuwon. According to authorities, the narrative making the rounds tells only part of the story and misses key details about what actually happened.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command described the publication as misleading and a distortion of facts. The statement explained that the matter was reported on April 9th, 2026, as a case involving alleged assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, following a dispute over electricity issues between a landlord and tenants.
Police say standard procedures were followed; all parties were invited, statements were taken and the situation was assessed without bias. The case, they noted, was treated strictly as a criminal complaint not a tenancy dispute and was handled at the divisional level with administrative bail granted to those involved.
In a turn that might surprise some observers, the matter didn’t end in court. The complainant later withdrew the case in writing, confirming that both sides had resolved the issue amicably.
The Command also emphasized that no one was unlawfully detained at any point, stressing that all actions taken were within constitutional and procedural limits. It added that it had earlier provided clarification to a media platform, but the eventual publication presented what it described as a selective and inaccurate account.
Police authorities are now urging the public to take sensational reports with caution and rely on verified updates from official sources, noting that distorted narratives can erode trust in lawful policing and due process.
