OGUN POLICE NEUTRALIZE SUSPECTED KIDNAP KINGPIN, RECOVER AK-47, ₦2 MILLION IN FOREST OPERATION

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralized a suspected kidnapping kingpin during a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out in the Orile Ilugun Forest area along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway. The operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, twenty rounds of live ammunition, ₦2 million cash and mobile phones believed to be linked to the criminal gang.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the operation followed ongoing investigations into the abduction of a victim kidnapped on May 14th, 2026, at Nufats Fuel Station in the Odeda area of Ogun State. The victim was reportedly released unharmed on May 18th after regaining freedom from the abductors.
Police said operatives intensified intelligence gathering immediately after the victim’s release, leading to a tactical raid on the kidnappers’ hideout in the early hours of May 19th
According to the Command, the suspects opened fire on officers on sighting the operatives, resulting in a gun duel inside the forest.
The Police operatives reportedly overpowered the gang with superior tactical response, leading to the death of the suspected gang leader, while other members escaped deeper into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.
Recovered during the operation were one AK-47 rifle loaded with twenty rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, ₦2 million suspected to be ransom proceeds and two mobile phones. The body of the neutralized suspect has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while security operatives continue combing the forest to arrest fleeing gang members.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their bravery, professionalism and resilience, reiterating the Command’s determination to sustain the fight against kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
