INTELLIGENCE-LED OPERATIONS YIELD MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH AS OGUN POLICE DISMANTLE CRIME NETWORKS

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a series of significant breakthroughs following coordinated intelligence-led operations across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo, resulting in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, stolen generators and mobile phones believed to be linked to multiple criminal activities.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command disclosed that operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and Ibafo Division worked together in separate operations that disrupted suspected criminal networks involved in theft, illegal possession of firearms, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

One of the operations led to the arrest of Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as "Okiki," who was allegedly linked to a generator theft syndicate operating in Abeokuta and surrounding communities. Investigators later arrested another suspect, Mumuni Amodu, also known as "Stone," believed to be a receiver of stolen goods. Recovered items included four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen. Police also arrested Abayomi John, alias "Ibafo," who allegedly provided transportation support for the group.

In a separate operation in Wasimi, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina over alleged unlawful possession of firearms. Officers recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge. Investigators say efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the case.
Meanwhile, detectives from Ibafo Division arrested Afisu Awesu while allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component. Further investigations led to the arrest of Bala Aminu, who is suspected of receiving stolen forklift tyres previously taken from the same location. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspect who fled the scene.

The State's Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift response, reaffirming the Command's commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained operations against criminal elements across Ogun State.
