NIGERIAN NAVY LED SCHOOL RENOVATION BRINGS TECHNOLOGY, NEW FACILITIES TO ORILE-AGEGE PUPILS

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned and officially handed over a series of educational infrastructure projects at St. Peter's Blessed Primary School in Orile-Agege, Lagos, marking another milestone in its' community outreach program aimed at strengthening education and fostering closer ties between the military and the public.

The projects, executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, drew senior military officers, government officials, education stakeholders, traditional leaders, teachers, pupils and members of the host community to celebrate the completion of facilities expected to improve teaching and learning.

Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), Rear Admiral P.E. Meteke said the intervention reflected the Nigerian Navy's commitment to contributing to national development beyond its' core security responsibilities. He noted that the initiative supports the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda while reinforcing the Navy's long-standing objective of building stronger relationships with communities through meaningful social investments.

At the center of the intervention was the complete renovation and modernization of the school's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, a project facilitated by Rear Admiral O.O. Soyemi. The upgraded facility now features desktop computers, internet connectivity and other digital resources designed to expose pupils to technology-driven learning at an early stage.

Meteke also acknowledged Rear Admiral Soyemi's role in bringing the project to fruition, while recognizing the support of the Lagos State Government and the Orile-Agege community. He called for sustained cooperation between residents and the Nigerian Navy to ensure the continued success of similar initiatives.

For Rear Admiral Soyemi, the project represented more than an institutional assignment. A former pupil of St. Peter's Blessed Primary School from 1976 to 1982, he described the intervention as an opportunity to give back to the school that helped shape his early years. He also dedicated the project to the memory of his late mother, who served as a teacher at the school.
Following an assessment of the school's most pressing needs, the intervention focused on improving digital education and upgrading essential facilities. Completed within three months, the project delivered a fully equipped ICT laboratory with 15 desktop computers, air-conditioning units, a 4.3-kilowatt solar inverter system, computer desks and chairs and reliable internet access.

The scope of work extended beyond technology. New toilet facilities were constructed for members of staff, existing student restrooms were renovated and a borehole with an overhead water storage system was installed to improve access to clean water and sanitation across the school.

The Chairman of the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu, represented by Hon. Wale Fayemi, welcomed the Navy's investment in the community, describing it as an important contribution to grassroots development and a practical demonstration of stronger civil-military partnership.

The Head Teacher of St. Peter's Blessed Primary School, Mrs. Folashade Aderonke Oke, expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the upgraded facilities would significantly improve the learning environment for pupils while providing teachers with better resources to deliver quality education.

The commissioning ceremony highlighted the Nigerian Navy's expanding role in community development, demonstrating how targeted investments in education and public infrastructure can create lasting benefits for future generations while strengthening trust between the armed forces and the communities they serve.
