ODITA TAKES OVER AS DECAN PRESIDENT; PLEDGES UNITY, PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE

The Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) has elected a new leadership team to guide the association for the next two years.
The election, which was conducted peacefully, produced Sunday Odita as President. Other elected officers are Linus Aleke (Vice President), Musa Umar Bologi (Secretary), Benjamin Samson (Treasurer), Kikelomo Okere (Financial Secretary), Ihotu Odoh (Welfare Officer), Agbor Jame (Provost) and Mathew Abi (Public Relations Officer).

The new executives pledged to focus on members' welfare and strengthen ties with stakeholders in the defence and security sector.
Speaking after the election, Odita said improving the well being of members would be a top priority. He noted that journalists perform better when they are supported and professionally empowered.
He also promised to build stronger partnerships with defence, security and intelligence agencies to support national security, peace and development.

According to him, the media and security institutions must continue working together to promote accurate reporting, strengthen public trust and encourage informed discussions on security issues.
Odita commended Nigerian troops for their sacrifices and commitment in tackling security challenges across the country. He praised military leaders and commanders for their efforts in maintaining peace and stability.

He said the work of the Armed Forces and other security agencies has played a key role in creating a safer environment for economic growth and national development.
The new DECAN president reaffirmed the association's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security and development while serving as a trusted link between the military, security institutions and the public.

The election marks the beginning of a new chapter for the association as it seeks to advance professional journalism and strengthen engagement with stakeholders in Nigeria's defence and security sector.
