The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another major success in its' campaign against armed robbery and vehicle theft, arresting three suspects including an alleged syndicate kingpin and recovering a stolen Toyota Corolla during separate intelligence-driven operations in Abeokuta and surrounding communities.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, detectives attached to the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, successfully disrupted an attempted robbery, uncovered a suspected vehicle theft network and recovered several exhibits linked to criminal activities.

The first breakthrough followed a distress call on May 22nd, from Oniyo Community in Obantoko, Abeokuta, where armed men allegedly attempted to steal a resident's vehicle while he was opening the gate to his home. The victim's alarm attracted neighbours, and in the confusion, the suspects crashed the vehicle into a fence before abandoning it and escaping. In their haste, they left behind an Infinix mobile phone and a Wema Bank ATM card.

Those items proved crucial. Investigators traced the evidence to Ismaila Israel Sokunbi, who was later arrested in Abeokuta. A search of his residence led to the recovery of several items, including a new gas cooker, ceiling fan, SIM cards, suspected charms, machinery tools, a gas-filling hose and cooking utensils. Further investigation led detectives to Ibadan, where they arrested Kayode Adeyemi, identified as the suspected leader of the syndicate.

Police said both suspects confessed to the attempted robbery and revealed that the group specialized in stealing vehicles by tampering with ignition wiring systems. Investigators believe the syndicate may be linked to several vehicle theft cases across Abeokuta and nearby communities.

In a separate operation, detectives resolved a vehicle theft case reported at Odeda Police Station involving a Toyota Corolla stolen in Osiele. Acting on intelligence, officers arrested 55-year-old Kola Taiwo and recovered the stolen vehicle. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to using master keys to steal parked vehicles and admitted involvement in the theft of a Toyota Camry in an earlier incident.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism and persistence of the officers involved, describing the arrests as another example of the Command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and its' zero-tolerance stance on violent crime and vehicle theft.

Police say investigations are continuing, with efforts underway to recover additional stolen vehicles and apprehend other members of the criminal networks.
