The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another round of security victories, arresting three suspects linked to cultism, armed robbery and receiving stolen property, while also disrupting a planned cult initiation exercise, recovering a stolen motorcycle and retrieving parts of a generator valued at ₦650,000.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command said the successes were achieved through intelligence-led operations carried out by officers in Mowe, Ago-Iwoye and Warewa Divisions as part of ongoing efforts to keep criminal elements off the streets and communities safe.
One of the major breakthroughs came in Mowe, where police operatives arrested a 26-year-old suspected leader of the Eiye Confraternity. Acting on credible intelligence, investigators uncovered plans by the group to stage an initiation exercise aimed at recruiting new members. Through surveillance and proactive deployment, officers moved in before the event could take place and arrested the suspect, who reportedly confessed to his leadership role and involvement in cult-related activities.
In Ago-Iwoye, police foiled what could have become a tragic armed robbery case. A commercial motorcyclist was attacked by two passengers along the Ita-Merin axis after they allegedly struck him with a hammer and stole his motorcycle. Following a distress call, residents chased and apprehended one of the suspects. Police officers quickly arrived at the scene, prevented an attempted mob action against the suspect, restored order and recovered both the stolen motorcycle and the hammer allegedly used in the attack. Investigators believe the suspects may be part of a wider network targeting commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes.
Meanwhile, detectives in Warewa Division uncovered a suspected stolen-property operation involving a 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000. The equipment, which had been rented out for legitimate business use, was allegedly diverted and sold for just ₦15,000. Acting on intelligence, officers traced the generator to Kara-Isheri, where a suspect was arrested while dismantling it into parts. Some components of the generator were recovered, while investigations continue into other possible members of the network.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance and swift response of the officers involved in the operations. He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that Ogun State will remain a difficult environment for criminals seeking to operate within its' borders.
