OGUN POLICE CLEAR TENSION IN IFO AS SUSPECTED CRIMINALS CONFIRMED AS  ROAD CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

What started as a security scare along the Ibogun Road axis in Ifo has turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, according to the Ogun State Police Command.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command clarified that a bus recently suspected by some residents to be conveying criminals was actually transporting 21 labourers engaged in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo–Ibogun Road.

The Police explained that upon receiving intelligence about the situation on June 3, 2026, surveillance and anti-robbery teams were immediately dispatched to the area. Officers discovered that the vehicle had been intercepted by some concerned youths who believed its' occupants were linked to criminal activities.

However, further investigation and verification confirmed that the passengers were legitimate workers employed by a construction company handling the ongoing federal road project in the area.

Following the verification, police officers reassured the workers of their safety and escorted them to their designated work site to prevent any further misunderstanding.

The Command described the report linking the workers to criminal activities as false and unfounded, urging residents to avoid spreading unverified information that could create unnecessary panic or expose innocent citizens to harassment.

While commending residents for remaining security conscious, the Ogun State Police Command advised members of the public to always verify information through appropriate channels before sharing it, noting that vigilance is most effective when paired with accurate information.
