OGUN POLICE DISMISS BANDITRY RUMOURS IN OTA, IFO, CLARIFY ARREST OF 38 FOREIGN NATIONALS

The Ogun State Police Command has firmly dismissed viral reports alleging bandit attacks, kidnappings and terrorist activities in parts of Ota, Ifo, Atan-Ota, Sango-Ota, Agbado and surrounding communities and assure residents to go about their daily activities without fear.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command described the circulating reports as false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents. The statement emphasized that there has been no bandit attack, kidnapping incident or security breach in any of the locations mentioned in the online reports.

According to the Police, officers were immediately deployed to the affected areas following the circulation of the rumours. The rapid response included on-the-spot assessments, confidence building patrols and security checks aimed at reassuring residents and verifying the claims.

The Command also disclosed that its' School Protection Squad, working alongside Divisional Police Officers, carried out security assessments at schools mentioned in the reports, including Oluke Community High School and Sango-Ota High School in the Ijoko axis. The assessments confirmed that the schools remained safe and fully operational, with academic activities proceeding normally throughout the day.

Police authorities noted that commercial, educational and social activities across the affected communities continued without disruption, reaffirming that Ogun State remains peaceful and secure.
The Command also clarified reports surrounding the arrest of 38 foreign nationals in Kajola-Ilese, Atan-Ota. According to the Police, the individuals,19 males and 19 females from Côte d’Ivoire, aged between 25 and 35 years, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation after they were unable to provide valid immigration documents. They reportedly stated that they entered Nigeria for online business activities and were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation.

The Police stressed that the arrested individuals were not bandits, kidnappers or terrorists, warning against attempts to link the operation to violent crime or insecurity.

Reassuring residents of sustained security coverage across the state, The Commissioner of Police,Ogun State Police Command, CP Bode Ojajuni said officers remain actively deployed on patrols and intelligence driven operations to protect lives and property.
