OGUN POLICE FOIL ALLEGED ₦50 MILLION KIDNAP PLOT TARGETING CHINESE NATIONAL

A planned kidnapping targeting a Chinese national was stopped before it could be carried out after operatives of the Ogun State Police Command arrested two suspected conspirators and uncovered an alleged ₦50 million ransom plot.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, detectives attached to the Obalende Division acted on credible intelligence indicating an imminent kidnapping attempt along the Ijebu-Ode–Odogbolu Expressway corridor. The intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of Chinedu Onwuemena, 41 and Jimoh Ojo, 37, at about 5:30 p.m. on June 9th, 2026.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly conspired to abduct a Chinese national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million for the victim's release. Preliminary findings revealed that Onwuemena, who reportedly worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, allegedly used his position and access to assist in planning the operation.

Police said the arrests followed swift action by the Divisional Police Officer, who immediately deployed surveillance and operational teams after receiving actionable intelligence about the plot. The operation effectively prevented the planned abduction from taking place.
Investigators further discovered that the suspects were allegedly working with at least one additional accomplice who remains at large. Efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect while detectives continue to investigate the broader network behind the conspiracy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for comprehensive and discreet investigation.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism, vigilance and rapid response of officers attached to the Obalende Division. He noted that the successful operation highlights the importance of timely intelligence and strong cooperation between security agencies and members of the public.

The Commissioner also reassured residents, investors and the business community that the Ogun State Police Command remains committed to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.
