OGUN POLICE NAB TWO SUSPECTS, RECOVER STOLEN COMPANY BUS NEAR BENIN BORDER

A suspected plan to move a stolen company bus across Nigeria's border into the Benin Republic was cut short after operatives of the Ogun State Police Command intercepted the vehicle and arrested two suspects in Idiroko.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, officers attached to the Idiroko Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, acted on credible intelligence and successfully recovered a stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus while arresting Seun Lawal, 46 and Ademola Oriyomi, 38.

Police said intelligence received at about 11:00 p.m. on June 12th, 2026, indicated that the suspects had positioned the bus at the Babaloke area of Idiroko and were preparing to move it across the international border under false pretences. The vehicle had earlier been declared stolen from Lagos.
Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilised a surveillance team to the location. Investigators said the suspects were intercepted while allegedly attempting to carry out the cross-border movement. To prevent the vehicle from escaping, operatives demobilised it by disabling one of its' tyres, bringing the operation to a successful conclusion.

The prompt response led to the recovery of the Toyota Coaster bus and the arrest of both suspects at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Seun Lawal, a company driver, allegedly conspired with Ademola Oriyomi, his guarantor, to steal and sell the vehicle in the Benin Republic. Police said the suspects admitted that the proceeds from the sale were intended to fund their relocation after the transaction.
Authorities believe the case may have wider implications and are investigating possible links to larger cross-border vehicle theft and trafficking networks operating along the border corridor.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni commended CSP Adejuwon Ariyo and the officers involved for their professionalism, vigilance and tactical response. He reiterated the Command's commitment to intelligence-led policing, stronger border security and proactive measures aimed at denying criminals freedom of operation within Ogun State.

The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
