FIVE ARRESTED AS OGUN POLICE UNCOVER SUSPECTED TRAILER CHOP-SHOP NETWORK

An intelligence-driven investigation by the Ogun State Police Command has uncovered what detectives believe is a sophisticated trailer theft and dismantling network, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of key components of a stolen trailer. The operation marks another significant breakthrough in the Command's sustained campaign against organized property crimes, highlighting an increasing reliance on forensic intelligence and coordinated investigations to dismantle criminal enterprises operating across state lines.

According to a statement released by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the investigation began after the owner of a commercial trailer reported that his driver had disappeared with the vehicle on June 6, 2026. After weeks of unsuccessful private efforts to trace both the driver and the missing trailer, detectives at the Ifo Divisional Headquarters launched an intelligence-led operation that ultimately uncovered a suspected syndicate allegedly specializing in dismantling stolen trailers and disposing of their parts through an organized network.
Using technical intelligence and coordinated surveillance, investigators tracked the fleeing driver, Temitope Omotayo Odulaja, to Ikorodu, Lagos State, where he was arrested on July 24. Information obtained during interrogation led detectives to Ijebu-Ode, where four additional suspects, Segun Suleiman, Haruna Olaogun, Jimoh Wasiu, and Quazzim Suleiman were apprehended in separate operations the following day for their alleged roles in the criminal enterprise.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the stolen trailer was dismantled shortly after it was taken, with its' components allegedly distributed to frustrate recovery efforts. Detectives have since recovered the trailer head and other parts, while photographs of the dismantled vehicle have been documented as exhibits. Investigators are continuing efforts to recover the remaining components, identify additional members of the suspected syndicate, establish the full scope of its operations and gather further evidence before prosecution.
The breakthrough underscores the Ogun State Police Command's growing emphasis on intelligence-led policing, which seeks not only to recover stolen property but also to dismantle organized criminal networks behind vehicle theft and related crimes. The investigation reflects a broader strategy aimed at disrupting criminal supply chains before they become entrenched.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the detectives for their professionalism, diligence and investigative discipline, describing the operation as a significant success against organized vehicle theft. He reaffirmed the Command's determination to intensify intelligence-led policing and proactive operations to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal syndicates operating within Ogun State.

The Commissioner also appealed to transport operators, logistics companies, fleet owners and members of the public to remain vigilant by promptly reporting suspicious persons, vehicles and activities. He assured residents that the Command would continue deploying intelligence-driven policing strategies to safeguard lives and property while ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.
