OPERATION KOSAYE CONTINUES IN OGUN STATE WITH MASS ARRESTS, CRACKDOWN ON CRIMINAL HIDEOUTS

Operation Kosaye, the Ogun State Police Command's sustained offensive against organized crime, gathered fresh momentum over the weekend after a coordinated late-night raid on a notorious criminal enclave produced 43 arrests and pushed the total number of suspects prosecuted under the initiative to 76. The operation reflects an increasingly aggressive strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks, disrupting illicit activities before they take root, and reclaiming public spaces long associated with lawlessness.

According to a statement released by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the latest operation represents another milestone in the Command's intelligence-led policing strategy under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni. The statement noted that Operation Kosaye continues to combine targeted intelligence, tactical precision and diligent prosecution to deny criminal groups safe havens while reinforcing public confidence in security across Ogun State.
The latest raid unfolded at about 11 p.m. on July 7 after investigators received intelligence indicating that a notorious location around Isheri-Olofin, opposite the Kara Cattle Market along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, had evolved into a hub for cult-related activities, drug abuse, prostitution and other criminal enterprises. Acting on the information, the Commander of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, CSP Murphy, deployed a tactical team that moved swiftly to the location.
By the end of the operation, officers had arrested 43 suspects including 28 men and 15 women, during what police described as a coordinated enforcement exercise. Searches conducted at the scene yielded substances suspected to be Indian hemp, 'Loud' and other illicit drugs, alongside 10 mobile phones, four power banks, a rechargeable hand fan, a cross-body bag containing two ATM cards and a National Identity Card, as well as other items believed to be connected to ongoing criminal activities.

The significance of the raid extends beyond the arrests themselves. Police say all 43 suspects have already been arraigned before the courts and remanded in correctional facilities pending trial. The charges span a broad range of alleged offences, including criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, membership of unlawful societies, disorderly conduct, offences relating to suspected cannabis, prostitution, operating an unlicensed brothel, living on the proceeds of prostitution and other violations under Ogun State laws.
Investigators also disclosed that several of those arrested have begun providing information considered valuable to other ongoing criminal investigations, opening fresh avenues for detectives pursuing wider networks believed to operate within and beyond the area. Follow-up operations are already underway as officers work to identify additional suspects and dismantle related criminal structures.

The latest prosecutions also highlight a defining feature of Operation Kosaye, its' emphasis on seeing investigations through the judicial process. With the arraignment of the latest suspects, the total number of individuals prosecuted since the operation began now stands at 76, comprising 33 suspects charged during the initial phase and 43 more following this latest enforcement action. The figures underscore the Command's strategy of pairing tactical operations with sustained legal action rather than limiting success to arrests alone.
The latest operation also illustrates how policing in Ogun State is increasingly targeting the ecosystems that enable crime to flourish. Rather than focusing solely on individual offenders, Operation Kosaye has broadened its reach to include criminal hideouts, illicit drug markets, cult enclaves and premises allegedly serving as covers for unlawful activities. The objective, police officials say, is to dismantle the infrastructure that sustains organised crime while making public spaces safer for residents.
