CP BODE OJAJUNI STRENGTHENS POLICE-NYSC ALLIANCE, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO YOUTH SAFETY

Strengthening the safety of young Nigerians and investing in preventive policing took centre stage as the Ogun State Police Command hosted the leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ogun State, in a high-level engagement aimed at reinforcing institutional collaboration. The meeting reflected a growing emphasis on youth-focused security, community partnerships and proactive measures designed to protect corps members while promoting responsible citizenship across the state.

According to a statement released by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Adewuyi Omolabake Frances, led members of the Scheme's management team on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. The engagement was designed to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the NYSC, consolidate existing security arrangements for corps members and expand collaboration on community-oriented policing initiatives throughout Ogun State.
The visit also highlighted the enduring partnership between both institutions in safeguarding thousands of corps members deployed across the state. During the engagement, the NYSC leadership acknowledged the Police Command's sustained support for corps members serving in various formations and communities, while commending ongoing efforts to maintain a secure environment for national service activities.

Responding, The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains the Command's foremost responsibility, assuring the delegation that the safety of corps members would continue to receive priority attention. He urged serving corps members to view the NYSC year as an opportunity to build leadership, discipline and resilience, while cautioning against involvement in criminal activities or associations capable of undermining their future.
The Commissioner also used the occasion to expand awareness of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), describing it as a cornerstone of the Nigeria Police Force's non-kinetic crime prevention strategy. The initiative, he explained, focuses on combating cultism, substance abuse and youth-related social vices through advocacy, mentorship and sustained community engagement.

He disclosed plans to broaden the campaign across schools and communities in Ogun State as part of efforts to strengthen preventive policing.
Addressing the NYSC management, CP Ojajuni stressed the importance of maintaining strong institutional discipline and effective supervision, noting that responsible leadership plays a critical role in shaping productive citizens and supporting national development.
The engagement also revisited the Command's recent rescue of 18 corps members whose vehicle broke down at night along the Ogbere-Ijebu Ode corridor, leaving them stranded in a vulnerable location. The swift intervention by police operatives ensured their safe evacuation to Ijebu Ode, reinforcing the Command's commitment to rapid response and the protection of residents and visitors alike.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by both the Ogun State Police Command and the NYSC to deepen cooperation through intelligence sharing, youth engagement and coordinated security initiatives.
