OGUN POLICE MOVE TO CALM AJOGBO AKIA TENSIONS, LAUNCH INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED LAND GRABBING

The Ogun State Police Command has opened an investigation into allegations of farmland destruction, intimidation and land grabbing in Ajogbo Akia community, while ordering intensified patrols to prevent the dispute from spilling into violence.

In a statement released by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, directed a comprehensive investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegations, identify anyone responsible for criminal conduct and ensure that those found culpable face the law.

The Command, however, drew a clear distinction between land ownership disputes and criminal offences. Questions of title, ownership and boundary claims remain civil matters to be resolved by competent courts, while acts such as crop destruction, criminal trespass, malicious damage and threats to life are criminal matters that may be reported to the Police for investigation and prosecution.

To keep the temperature from rising, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers responsible for the area have been directed to deploy high-visibility patrols and intelligence assets across Ajogbo Akia and adjoining farming corridors. The teams are expected to maintain a round-the-clock presence, allowing farmers and residents to access their properties and conduct lawful activities without intimidation or violence.

The Police also commended the Baale of Ajogbo Akia, Dr. Oluwasegun Adebiyi and community leaders for seeking law enforcement intervention rather than resorting to self-help.

The Command reiterated its' zero-tolerance position on land grabbing, threats to life and other forms of criminality, while urging residents to remain calm and provide investigators with credible information that could help resolve the matter and preserve peace.
