OGUN POLICE, NAFDAC JOIN FORCES ON ALCOHOL, PRODUCT SAFETY

The Ogun State Commissioner Of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the Command’s support for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as the agency intensifies enforcement against restricted alcoholic drinks and other unsafe regulated products across the state.

According to a statement released by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the assurance followed a visit by NAFDAC Ogun Office 1 State Coordinator, Mr. Akinwale Fagoroye, and his team to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency cooperation and providing security support for lawful enforcement operations.
NAFDAC’s current exercise, which began in Abeokuta and is being extended across the state, targets alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml (20cl). Enforcement teams are inspecting markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars, warehouses, factories and other points where regulated products are manufactured, stored or sold.

The agency is also pursuing violations involving fake, unregistered, substandard, adulterated, expired or wrongly labelled products, as well as facilities operating without the necessary approvals.

Ojajuni said the Police would provide the necessary support for legitimate enforcement while also enforcing applicable liquor laws in Ogun. The joint effort, he stressed, is intended to curb unlawful alcohol distribution and protect residents, particularly young people, from products and practices that could compromise public health and safety.

The Police Command urged manufacturers, distributors, retailers and consumers to comply with applicable regulations and cooperate with authorised officials. Residents were equally encouraged to report suspected unsafe products and illegal alcohol-related activities to the appropriate authorities.
