A police intervention in Owode-Yewa this week, ended a doctor wiping out a ₦300,000 bill owed by a woman who had just lost her baby.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the matter came to the attention of the Owode-Yewa Police Division on September 13, 2026, after Precious Mathew of the Ogooluwa area, behind Owode Market, sought assistance over the unpaid hospital balance.

Precious had undergone a Caesarean Section at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo, Owode-Yewa, on June 30. The procedure was followed by the death of her baby. Her hospital bill came to ₦400,000, of which ₦100,000 had been paid, leaving ₦300,000 outstanding.

The matter was subsequently brought before Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, who reached out to the attending medical doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel and appealed for compassion given the woman’s circumstances.

Dr Samuel agreed to waive the entire outstanding balance, allowing Precious to leave without the financial obligation hanging over her.

What might ordinarily have become a dispute over money instead turned into an exercise in mediation and goodwill. The police intervention created room for a conversation, while the doctor’s decision transformed the outcome for a woman already dealing with the loss of her child.

The Ogun State Police Command expressed appreciation to Dr Samuel for his generosity, describing the gesture as a reminder that policing can sometimes extend beyond crime prevention to resolving moments of distress through dialogue and human understanding.
