OGUN POLICE ARREST SUSPECT, HUNT ACCOMPLICE OVER ALLEGED GANG RAPE

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo, while detectives intensify efforts to locate a second suspect who remains at large.

In a statement released by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the incident was reported by the victim’s mother at about 10:10 a.m. on September 1, two days after the alleged assault at the family’s residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.

Police officers attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division moved swiftly to the reported scene, securing the location and gathering preliminary evidence. The victim was subsequently taken to the General Hospital for medical examination and care under survivor-centred procedures.

Investigators later arrested Ayomide Kamula, 20, who is being held for questioning. Police have also identified Boye Balogun as the alleged accomplice and launched an intelligence-led search for him.

The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged assault and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance toward sexual and gender-based violence. He assured the victim’s family that the investigation would be handled discreetly and thoroughly, with efforts continuing to bring the fleeing suspect before the law.
