The Ogun State Police Command has begun preparations for the 2027 general elections with a two-day stakeholders’ workshop designed to sharpen security planning, clarify legal responsibilities and strengthen coordination among institutions that will shape the electoral process.

The workshop, themed “Elections, Security, the Law, Stakeholders & the Media,” opened on Tuesday at Event Towers, Ibara, Abeokuta, with the participation of security agencies, INEC, political parties, legal and human rights bodies, journalists, community groups and civil society organisations.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command said the workshop was organised with the Development Communication Research Centre Ltd as part of its' early preparations for the elections.

The opening session was attended on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun by his Special Adviser on Security, retired AIG Sola Subair. The governor’s message placed responsibility for electoral peace across security agencies, electoral institutions, political parties, the media and other stakeholders.

For the Ogun State Commissioner Of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, the central issue is preparation before election day. The workshop is examining intelligence sharing, political neutrality, fundamental rights, professional conduct and the need for security agencies and other actors to understand where their responsibilities begin and end.

The Command’s operational structure is represented by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners, all 16 Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Squadron and Tactical Commanders. Other participants include the Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, Amotekun, So-Safe Corps, vigilante groups, NHRC, Customs, NUJ, NBA, PCRC, INEC, IPAC, political parties, media organisations and civil society groups.

Professor Bolu John Folayan, the workshop’s Executive Consultant, stressed the importance of understanding the 1999 Constitution, Electoral Act and Police Act, while Professor Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf is scheduled to lead a technical session examining the relationship between elections, security, law and responsible communication.

The workshop continues on Wednesday with sessions covering election security, stakeholder roles, community engagement, media relations and social media management as the Command begins building its security framework well ahead of the 2027 polls.
