TEENAGE BREAK-IN TRAIL LEADS POLICE TO FIVE SUSPECTS IN OGUN

A string of market burglaries has led to the arrest of five suspects, including four teenagers accused of involvement in separate break-ins.

In a statement released by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the arrests followed two separate incidents reported in the Ado-Odo area on September 2 and 4, 2026.

The first case unfolded around 3:30 a.m. on September 2, after community members alerted security personnel to unusual movement inside a market stall. Police patrol officers moved in and found 15-year-old Lateef Kalid and 16-year-old Kareem Jamal inside the premises with food items and other goods believed to have been taken from the shop.

Further questioning led detectives to 14-year-old Sofiu Alabi, who was allegedly responsible for supplying the key used to gain entry. The three teenagers have since been arraigned in court.

Two days later, another trail emerged when personnel of the So-Safe Corps apprehended 16-year-old Taofik Abioro and 15-year-old Ogundele Monday and handed them over to the police. Investigators said the pair admitted involvement in several shop burglaries across Ado-Odo.

Searches conducted at their residences reportedly produced more items suspected to have been stolen. Detectives are now expanding the investigation and pursuing another person believed to be connected to the burglaries.

The arrests also highlight the uneasy intersection between youth vulnerability and petty crime, with teenagers allegedly moving from opportunity to opportunity under the cover of darkness. Police have urged parents, guardians and community leaders to pay closer attention to young people who may be drifting into criminal activity.

The State Commissioner Of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni,  commended the Ado-Odo officers, community members and So-Safe Corps personnel whose cooperation helped uncover the alleged network. He also called on traders and other business owners to strengthen basic security around their premises and report suspicious activity promptly.
