The families of deceased police officers who served in Ogun State have received ₦37.9 million under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme, a welfare intervention designed to provide financial relief to those left behind by officers who died in the line of duty.

In a statement released by the DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the command said cheques totalling ₦37,913,081.77 were presented to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The presentation took place at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, with DCP Oliver Ezirim, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, representing the State Police Commissioner, CP Bode Ojajuni. Members of the command’s management team joined the ceremony, which began with a minute’s silence for the deceased officers.

The payment forms part of the Force’s broader welfare structure for families of personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in service. While the financial support cannot reverse the loss, the intervention provides a measure of assistance to families navigating life after the death of a police officer.

Speaking for the beneficiaries, Mrs John Shito expressed appreciation for the assistance and said the funds would be applied to the welfare and upkeep of the affected families.

The Ogun Command said the families of fallen officers remain part of the police community, adding that the Force continues to honour the memory of personnel whose service ended in sacrifice.
