Three suspects are expected to appear before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on Friday over allegations of assaulting police officers and obstructing them while performing their duties, following a confrontation that drew attention after video footage circulated on social media.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the prosecution follows an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, into the September 29 incident involving Alaba Mulika, 51, Alawode Iyanu, 21, and Temitope Saliu, 29.

The encounter began on Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye, when a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry. As officers conveyed the vehicle to the station, a Toyota Highlander, with registration number JJJ 215 JV, allegedly blocked their path on Abobi Street, triggering a physical altercation.

Two officers, INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi, were allegedly assaulted during the confrontation. Detectives subsequently visited the scene, reviewed available evidence, including footage shared online, and arrested the three suspects.

They are to face five counts relating to conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The charges remain allegations to be determined by the court.

The police command reiterated the importance of allowing officers to carry out lawful duties without physical interference, while urging members of the public to pursue grievances through established legal channels rather than resorting to confrontation.
