Student leaders from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, are seeking closer collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to address security concerns affecting students and promote safer academic communities across Ogun State.

In a statement released by DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) executives, led by Comrade Opatumobi Boluwatife Joshua, paid a courtesy visit to the Elewe-Eran Police Zone on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening ties between student representatives and the police, with discussions centring on security awareness, cooperation and strategies to reach students across institutions. The police also proposed a Student Security Summit as a platform to address concerns affecting young people and build a more informed campus community.

DSP Babaseyi highlighted the importance of constructive engagement between student leaders and law enforcement, while raising concerns about inadequate hostel accommodation in many tertiary institutions across Ogun State. He urged students to prioritize safe residential arrangements close to their schools.

The command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, E.O. Oluborode, encouraged the student bodies to work together with the police to educate their peers about the risks associated with cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.

The visit reflects a growing recognition that campus safety requires more than police patrols. Student leaders, educational institutions and security agencies must also work together to encourage responsible conduct, strengthen trust and identify threats before they escalate.

The MAPOLY executives expressed appreciation for the reception and signalled their readiness to sustain the engagement, with the broader goal of fostering peaceful coexistence and improving security for students across Ogun State.
