The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a principal suspect over the murder of a retired teacher in Abeokuta eight months after her body was discovered at her residence.
The suspect, Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as Oki-Ocean, was arrested on October 19 following sustained investigations by the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta. The case concerns the killing of 61-year-old Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun at Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, on February 27, 2026.
Her body was discovered in the toilet of her home the following day, after she reportedly returned from a retirement celebration organized by her colleagues. Preliminary police investigations indicate that she was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
Police said Ayinde reportedly linked the incident to a financial disagreement involving ₦3.45 million he claimed to have entrusted to the deceased for safekeeping. He also alleged that they had agreed she would lend him ₦1.5 million towards the purchase of another vehicle. Detectives are working to verify his account and establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the investigating officers for their persistence and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to thorough investigations and lawful prosecution. The suspect is expected to be charged in court when investigations are concluded.
The arrest marks a major development in a case that has remained under investigation since February. Police are continuing efforts to establish the full sequence of events and determine the evidence to be presented in court.
