The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of cultism and recovered two locally made pistols, three live cartridges and a battle axe in an intelligence-led operation spanning two days.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement dated October 28, saying operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad arrested Okiki Muhammed Adewusi, known as “Baba Obo,” in the Ore area of Atan on October 26.
The arrest followed intelligence received by SWAT Base 7 operatives in Abule Iroko, Sango-Ota. A search of Adewusi’s residence reportedly yielded a locally made pistol and three live cartridges. Preliminary investigations indicate that he allegedly admitted to belonging to the Eiye Confraternity.
Police subsequently acted on information obtained during the arrest, recovering a second locally made pistol and a battle axe at another location early on October 27.
Investigators are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other suspected accomplices, establish the full circumstances of the case and locate any additional weapons. The recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the SWAT team for its' use of intelligence and operational follow-through, reiterating the Command’s commitment to disrupting cult groups, curbing illegal firearms and preventing violent crime.
The Command urged residents to provide credible information about suspected criminal activity, saying actionable intelligence remains important to its efforts to protect lives and property across Ogun State.
