Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has engaged four security agencies to strengthen campus security through intelligence sharing, improved infrastructure, personnel deployment and community cooperation.

Led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Samuel Oladipo, the university’s management team visited the Ogun State Police Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun and the SO-SAFE Corps to discuss security challenges affecting the institution and neighbouring communities.

During a meeting with the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Oladipo called for an additional police post in a host community and improved access roads to support security operations. Ojajuni identified inadequate perimeter fencing, poor roads and students’ dispersal across surrounding communities as major challenges. He said the Command was working to strengthen its' existing police post and review personnel deployment.

At the NSCDC, State Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo emphasised intelligence sharing, timely reporting and coordinated responses to threats including cultism, theft, vandalism and kidnapping. Oladipo outlined the university’s plans to improve fencing, lighting and surveillance, while expanding on-campus accommodation to enhance student safety.

Amotekun State Commandant, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (rtd.), urged the university to complete its perimeter fence and pledged continued support for school security. Discussions with the SO-SAFE Corps, led by State Commander Dr Sola Ganzallo, focused on intelligence sharing, community vigilance and difficulties posed by poor road access in some areas.

The university also proposed collaboration through its' Centre for Human Rights and Gender Education (CHURGE) to provide security training, human rights education, peacebuilding and conflict management programmes for security personnel.

TASFUED said the engagements would support stronger coordination among security agencies, university authorities and host communities to protect lives and property and maintain a safe environment for teaching, learning and research.
