The Ogun State Police Command has disrupted a suspected armed robbery operation in Ota, leaving one suspect dead and yielding two vehicles, a locally made pistol, ammunition and a collection of property believed to have been stolen.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, on November 1, the Command said operatives attached to Onipanu Division, under Ota Area Command, responded to a distress call from a resident in the Ijaba area of Iyesi, Ota, in the early hours of Sunday.
The patrol team arrived at about 1:45 a.m. and encountered armed men who opened fire on the officers. Police returned fire, killing one suspect, while other members of the gang escaped, some reportedly with gunshot injuries.
A search of the scene led to the recovery of a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, alongside a cache of suspected stolen items. These included HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing and other household belongings.
Officers also recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and seven spent cartridges from the deceased suspect. Other items found included a Tecno phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number cards, an OPay ATM card, cash and additional electronic devices.
Police said efforts were under way to locate the fleeing suspects, particularly those who may have been wounded during the exchange of gunfire. Investigators are also working to establish the ownership of the recovered vehicles and determine whether the seized items are connected to other reported crimes.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the responding officers for their swift intervention and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained patrols and intelligence-led operations. He urged residents to report suspicious movements promptly, stressing that public cooperation remains central to preventing crime and protecting communities across Ogun State.
