A coordinated international operation involving Nigerian and foreign law enforcement agencies has dealt a major blow to an alleged transnational drug trafficking and money laundering network operating across Europe and Africa. The operation, led by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in collaboration with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (US-DEA) and authorities in Switzerland, France and Greece, resulted in the arrest of a suspected billionaire drug baron and two female associates linked to the organization’s financial operations.

In a statement released by the Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency disclosed that the operation culminated in the arrest of suspected kingpin Amadi Simon in Switzerland, alongside alleged accomplices Jecinta Amara Ikechi in Anambra State and Blessing Ngozi Amadi in Delta State. The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig General Mohamed Buba Marwa(Rtd), described the success of the multi-country investigation as a strong signal that Nigeria will not serve as a sanctuary for drug cartels or their illicit proceeds.

According to investigators, the syndicate allegedly operated an extensive laundering network involving shell companies, cryptocurrency accounts, and complex financial channels used to conceal proceeds from narcotics trafficking and related crimes. Months of intelligence gathering across multiple jurisdictions reportedly linked the network to transactions worth hundreds of billions of naira.

Authorities have also traced and identified several high value assets allegedly connected to the operation, including Jovi Hotel, Jovi Hotel and Suites and Jovi Apartment. Multiple bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets tied to the syndicate have reportedly been blocked as part of ongoing financial investigations.

Brig. General Marwa( Rtd) praised the cooperation between NDLEA and its' international partners, particularly the US-DEA, noting that the partnership has strengthened Nigeria’s capabilities in intelligence gathering, tactical operations and evidence management. He emphasized that the agency remains committed to pursuing traffickers and financial crime networks regardless of where they attempt to hide.
