Nigeria’s anti-drug enforcement campaign widened over the weekend as operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) uncovered a major cannabis stash house in Lagos and carried out a series of coordinated arrests across multiple states. The operations, which also exposed a makeshift drug mixing factory in Lagos, reflect the agency’s continued push against increasingly decentralized narcotics networks.

In a statement released by the Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency confirmed that operatives recovered 2,326 kilograms of 'Loud', a potent strain of imported cannabis, from a mansion in Lekki Phase 1 valued at over N5.8 billion. The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig General Mohamed Buba Marwa(Rtd) commended officers involved in the operations, describing the seizures and arrests as further evidence of the agency’s resolve to sustain pressure on trafficking networks nationwide.

The Lekki operation, carried out by NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit, led to the discovery of 4,000 parcels of cannabis stored inside a luxury property located on African Lane. Authorities also recovered two Mercedes-Benz buses and designer packaging materials allegedly used for retail distribution, highlighting the commercial sophistication behind the operation.

Elsewhere, enforcement actions in Anambra and Kwara states resulted in the arrest of three persons living with disabilities over alleged drug trafficking activities. Among them was 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, apprehended in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with sachets of skunk. Another suspect, Amos Kenneth, was arrested in Ogbunike with tramadol, diazepam, exol tablets and cannabis, while Usman Salisu was intercepted in Kwara with 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a school bag aboard a commercial vehicle.
In Kogi State, operatives intercepted a commuter bus along the Okene-Lokoja highway carrying 766 kilograms of cannabis packed in 76 jumbo bags, leading to the arrest of Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa. Another suspect, Emmanuel Osita Okeke, was arrested in Nasarawa State with 129 kilograms of skunk.

The agency also raided a makeshift 'skuchies' production site in Ijora Badia, Lagos, where suspects Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege were allegedly caught mixing cannabis with other illicit substances. NDLEA operatives recovered 270 litres of the concoction alongside tramadol tablets.

Beyond enforcement, the agency said its' War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaign continued in schools and communities across several states, combining supply reduction efforts with public awareness initiatives. Brig. General Marwa(Rtd) urged commands nationwide to maintain operational momentum, stressing that enforcement and prevention must continue side by side in addressing Nigeria’s evolving drug challenge.
