PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMENDS NDLEA FOR CRUSHING MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR DRUG NETWORK

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the dismantling of a sophisticated Nigerian-Mexican drug trafficking network linked to a multi-million-dollar illicit drug production operation in Nigeria.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the operation as a landmark success in Nigeria’s ongoing war against narcotics and transnational organized crime. The operation, announced by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig General Mohamed Buba Marwa(Rtd), reportedly followed weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated planning involving local operatives and international law enforcement partners.

According to the Presidency, the operation led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins and several collaborators, alongside the seizure of chemicals and illicit substances valued at more than $360 million. Tinubu said the outcome reflected exceptional professionalism, courage and unwavering commitment by NDLEA officers in protecting Nigerian society from the destructive effects of narcotics.

The President also warned against complacency, noting that West Africa has increasingly become a strategic transit corridor for cocaine, synthetic drugs and unregulated pharmaceuticals destined for Europe and North America. He described drug trafficking not only as a security threat but also as a growing danger to the future of young Nigerians vulnerable to addiction and criminal exploitation.

Calling for greater public participation, Tinubu urged Nigerians to see the anti-drug campaign as a collective responsibility rather than the burden of the NDLEA alone. He encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities capable of aiding criminal networks.
